Foundation Sponsors Oncology Training for African Nurses
The Health Carousel Foundation is proud to announce its financial support for the newly launched Oncology Nursing Program, now available on the popular World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA) mobile application & online platform. The Foundation grant will support a blended approach with online and in-person cancer care training for nurses in Uganda and Kenya. Planning for these in-person training programs is underway, and local subject matter experts will conduct them over the next 12 months.
Early results of the online training provided via the WCEA application look promising, with more than 4,000 hours of free nursing education completed as of this press release.
WCEA supports the capacity building of nurses and midwives on CPD & lifelong learning in Africa and other low- and middle-income countries using technology. They aim to ensure that nurses and midwives have unrestricted access to quality, evidence-based, accredited CPD resources, to empower them with the necessary skills and competencies to deliver better patient care so people can live longer and healthier lives.
Since the launch of their Project One World in January 2020, WCEA has managed to connect with and train over 900,000 nurses and midwives in Africa and other low income countries.
Noncommunicable diseases are on the rise in Africa, and this program is designed to cover early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer. WCEA’s platform, with its ability to operate offline, enables professional development for HCPs, especially those in disadvantaged, hard-to-reach regions where primary health care is more pronounced.
Through partnerships with Nursing and Midwifery Councils and supportive organizations such as the Health Carousel Foundation, WCEA can provide access to the leading resource of accredited learning content that nurses and midwives can use to renew their practicing licenses.
Special praise goes out to Nairobi, Kenya-based Amref International University for providing the training content to WCEA. The mobile app course is thorough, and a more robust version of this training is available as a 12-month diploma program in oncology and palliative care through the university.
