May 22, 2024 (Kampala, Uganda) - Earl Dalton, Chief Clinical Officer of Health Carousel, and Andrew Lingo, Executive Director of the Health Carousel Foundation, returned from Uganda after celebrating the graduation of a dozen nurses the Foundation sponsored through a year-long nurse training program run in collaboration with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union (UNMU) to create more ICU nurses to better care for country's most ill patients.
While in Uganda, Andrew and Earl toured UNMU offices and the Foundation-sponsored nurse training lab within, met with Celestino Obua, the current Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), attended the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union Annual Scientific Conference, participated in the National Nurses Day Celebration, and toured Uganda Heart Institute.
The National Nurses Day Celebration was honored to have local political and religious leaders, Uganda's Minister of Internal Security, and the Vice President in attendance. In her address, the Vice President hailed nurses and midwives as formidable forces in ensuring that the sick are cared for until their health is restored. The Vice President also participated in the presentation of DAISY Awards to four extraordinary nurses. These awards were made possible through the Foundation's support of the DAISY International Advocate Program.
The video and pictures below detail Earl and Andrew's experiences throughout Uganda, the Pearl of Africa.
