Amid Pandemic Health Carousel Is Lighting the Way To Address Global Nursing Issues
May 11, 2020: Health Carousel, on the eve of International Nurses Day and during the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, announced the Light the Way initiative, which is the culmination of Health Carousel’s steadfast commitment to ethical, sustainable recruitment and investment in healthcare talent within the US and across the globe.
“It has never been so evident as during these uncertain times of COVID-19, that highly successful organizations such as Health Carousel have a certain social responsibility that heightens as they grow. As a social enterprise, we like to say that “we do well by doing good.” - Bill DeVille, CEO, Health Carousel
As a first step in Light the Way, Health Carousel has partnered with The DAISY Foundation on the formation of the International Advocacy program. This program extends the global footprint of The DAISY Foundation to many more nurses worldwide. The first outcome of the International Advocacy program is the sponsorship of DAISY awards for exceptional nurses identified by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union. Uganda is widely recognized as experiencing a severe shortage of nurses. Nursing recognition programs such as The DAISY Award are known to build resiliency and retention within the profession. This is particularly important in countries such as Uganda with low nurses per capita and relatively low wages for the profession. Without sponsorship from Health Carousel, the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union’s participation in the globally revered DAISY award program would not be financially feasible.
Bill DeVille, CEO of Health Carousel and visionary behind “Light the Way” stated, “It has never been so evident as during these uncertain times of COVID-19, that highly successful organizations such as Health Carousel have a certain social responsibility that heightens as they grow. As a social enterprise, we like to say that “we do well by doing good.” Light the Way puts a lot of our development and reinvestment activities for clients, healthcare professionals, internal employees, and even foreign government entities under one umbrella. It is somewhat coincidental, but very meaningful, that all of this is coming together during a year when the fortitude and ethics of companies and individuals are being put to the test,” said Bill. “I hope we serve as an example of the force for good that US organizations can be. We are very fortunate,” concluded Mr. DeVille.
Earl Dalton, Chief Nursing Officer of Health Carousel was also on hand to comment. “We are extremely proud to expand our relationship with The DAISY Foundation and in supporting DAISY Awards for the compassionate Ugandan nurses honored today.” Dalton added that Uganda is the first of several International Advocacy programs being launched with The DAISY Foundation over the coming months.
Since our inception in 2004, Health Carousel has maintained its Light the Way initiatives, through which all our programs and activities promoting ethical recruitment practices and nursing sustainability globally have been funneled.
